Design for Caring Future + SG60: Reimagining Community Spaces @ Boon Lay Residents’ Network‌

Our Project

As Singapore continues to develop at a breakneck pace, more Singaporeans are subjected to long and traitorous working hours, leading to an increase in social isolation and precious face-to-face interactions. Lacking time for meaningful face-to-face interaction makes people more vulnerable to stress, loneliness, and burnouts, which negatively impacts well-being and relationships. Over time, this weakens community bonds, reduces empathy and social support, leading to a more disconnected and less resilient society.

"Reimagining community spaces @ Boon Lay residents' Network" addresses the increase of social isolation in Singapore. Block 181B Boon Lay residents show that void decks are just transit corridors rather than social spaces. To counter this, our team created a spatial design solution featuring dementia-friendly way-finding systems and nostalgic interior elements. This aims to bridge the intergenerational gap between the younger and older generation by turning underutilized spaces into a purposeful hub that encourage residents to linger, connect, and care more for one another.
